FAQs

- What is your educational philosophy?

We follow a play-based learning method to help children develop academic, social, emotional, and physical skills by harnessing their inherent curiosity and creativity.

- What is the teacher-to-student ratio?

The teacher-to-student ratio depends on the age range of each class. The ratio for each individual class is listed on our programs page.

- What are your preschool teacher qualifications?

Each class is led by two teachers with professional training and experience in early childhood education. Every teacher completes at least 16 hours of professional development and education each year to keep their classroom curriculum and activities vibrant and effective. Our teachers are not just educators; they're mentors and friends who provide a nurturing and supportive environment for each other as well as for their students.

- What are your safety requirements?

We take safety seriously. Each staff member undergoes thorough background checks and is certified in CPR, First Aid, and emergency medication administration. We practice Fire, Lockdown, and Shelter-in-place drills and are constantly evaluating our safety protocols to keep our school secure. Your child's safety and well-being are our top priorities. We also practice “Safe Sanctuaries” with at least two staff members supervising children at all times.

- What is the daily schedule like?

The daily schedule for each class varies, but they all include free play, circle time, story time, center-based guided play, and playground time. Additionally, music and movement, chapel time, and Bible story are held weekly or monthly. The preschool day begins at 9:15am and ends at 12:15am. Extended Day (Lunch & Play) runs from 12:15-2:10pm and includes free play, crafts, and outdoor play time.

- How do you support children with special needs or learning differences?

Our school gladly accommodates services provided by Fairfax County Child Find and works to create an effective space and schedule with your child's resource teacher.

- What is the preschool's requirements for potty training?

All students must be full toilet trained by their first day of classes. They should be able to communicate with their teachers that they need to use the bathroom, and should also be able to use the toilet with little to no assistance. This is in accordance with the license issued to our preschool by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

- What is the school’s policy on nutrition and allergies?

We take your child's food allergies seriously. If your child has a serious food allergy we adjust our food restrictions to account for that particular food. For non-serious allergies, you may opt to bring your own snack.

- How do you assess children’s progress?

Parent-teacher conferences, or Family Sharing Conferences, are held at the beginning of each school year. A second Family Sharing Conference is held in the early Spring to discuss your child's progress since the beginning of the year, and to discuss future educational planning.

- Are there opportunities for parent involvement?

Yes! We welcome parents to come in as mystery readers, serve as substitute teachers, and help celebrate your child's birthday. We also hold special events for parents throughout the year (i.e. "Donuts with Dad").

- What is parent communication like?

Your teacher will greet you each day during drop-off and pick-up, which allows for face-to-face communication each day. Teachers will also send home a monthly newsletter letting you know what the month's focus and schedule is for the class. You will also have two Family Sharing Conferences throughout the year to discuss your child specifically. Lastly, the preschool staff will send weekly emails keeping your abreast of school-wide information and events.

- What is the cost, and are there any additional fees?

You can find our tuition and fees information on our programs and tuition page.
